For each module, that is reading, listening, Writing and Speaking some tips have to be followed by a candidate to score a good band in an exam. So there are certain free tips which are required in each module for both academic and General training as follows: –

Reading Module

  • While attempting reading, look out for questions and instructions first instead of going through the text.
  • Do not spend much time on one question. Not more than 20minutes to be spent on one passage.
  • Do not read and understand every word of the text, in order to save time, skim and scan the passage to get required piece of information.
  • All the answers have to be picked up from the texts itself, so if the passage is not familiar to you do not be panic.
  • Copy the same words from the passage, only change the grammar according to the demand of the questions.
  • Most of the questions from the paper are answered in a sequence. The difficult questions are randomly scattered in three passages.
  • Transfer the answers side by side as no extra time will be given later on. If the candidate is not sure about the answers, then also write the answers as there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

 Listening Module:

  • Practice as many papers as you can. The material for listening module can either be provided by the coaching centre or be found online also.
  • Read the questions in advance and utilize that time productively.
  • There are certain pauses in the tape which can be utilized to read the other section and try to anticipate the answers.
  • While listening to the tape, pay attention to ‘signpost words” such as however, although, linking words, finally etc.
  • The answers are most likely in sequence, by chance the candidate missed any answer so these signpost words can help to move on to the next question.
  • Be careful about singular and plural Write the answers on the questions paper itself while listening a tape. Answers can be written in short hand and spellings can be checked later on as 10minutes extra time will be given for transferring the answer on the answer sheet.
  • The audio will be played once. Listen to some international news channels like BBC and CNN to develop a better understanding of the accent.

Writing Module:-

  • In writing, always begin with task 2 as it has more weightage than task1.
  • Give 40 minutes to task 2 and 20minutes to task1.
  • The candidate must keep 5 minutes each for planning both the tasks.
  • In this module avoid the use of informal language and
  • Do not write anything which is not related with the demand of the questions, otherwise it will be considered as OFF TOPIC and a band will be deducted under this parameter.
  • Write a minimum of 150words for task 1 and 250 words for task 2. Organize the ideas in a proper manner and a wide range of vocabulary to be used.
  • Opinion should be expressed clearly and keep sufficient time to revise both the tasks.

Speaking Module:-

  • In this module a candidate has to be natural and should not give any memorized answers.
  • Do not give one word answers, support your answers with some justification.
  • Listen to the question carefully and give relevant answers.
  • Going off-topic while speaking could mean that a candidate did not understand the question properly.
  • Do not take much time to think, be quick while responding. Give clear answers.
  • Make use of intonation, Phrasal verbs, collocations to add more depth. As to identify the week points, recording can be done on a tape by the students and can be listened later on for improvement.
  • As there is no any fixed answer to a question, so make sure one is able to present their opinion and support it.
