IELTS is a pre-requisite to apply for a study program in most of the colleges and universities in Canada. The requirement of band scores can vary as per the course and the institution where the student has to apply. Universities take students at a higher band score than the colleges.

In Canada, band requirement also varies as per the province. Like, in Ontario, most of the colleges accept the application of students at 5.5 bands minimum in each module and 6.0 bands overall. However, provinces like British Columbia generally accept applications if the student scores minimum 6.0 bands in each module and 6.5 bands overall.

The band requirement also varies according to the type of course. For undergraduate courses, 6.0 bands or 6.5 bands overall are normally sought by the colleges, but for post graduation courses the band requirement is towards the higher scale.

Besides this band score, there are certain other criteria also which help in procuring an offer letter from reputed colleges or universities. The required aggregate of marks in the last taken qualification at times is around 60% or 70% depending upon the chosen course or subject, as in the case of computer security or networking.
