IELTS result is displayed on the websites of IDP and British Council after 13 days of the exam. The students can check it on the respective websites. Those who have taken up the exam from IDP can check the preview by logging in their date of birth and passport number. However, to check the result at the British Council website, along with date of birth, candidate number and identification document number are also required.
The students need to keep in mind that the preview shown online for the result cannot be used for official purposes. For that, a Test Report Form(TRF) is generated and sent via post. The online result does not bear much detail except for the band scores in all the four modules and the overall band score. The candidate details are mentioned only in the TRF, not in the online result.
The online results do not stay on the website forever. IDP takes off the result after approximately 28 days and British Council after 40 days. These results are only used as reference before the TRF is dispatched.
Some centers also have a facility of sending the result through SMS. Once the preview is displayed online, such centers also send alerts to the students at their registered mobile numbers.
